Here at Rons Place Software, we have been rethinking our product lineup recently. Over the years, we've tried many things. Some worked, some not so much, and the world has changed quite rapidly in recent years. Decisions needed to be made.

Each product costs time, effort, and money to keep alive, even when it is no longer in active development. Even without a commitment to fixing bugs, simply answering emails and helping users resolve issues takes time.

Long story short: any product with no future, or worse, no active present, has been discontinued.

That did not Include Rons Renamer

Rons Renamer was one of the first apps I developed (the Ron), and it has always held a special place in my affections. It's not a product that sets the world on fire, but it was very good at what it did.

As other products were developed and we switched to new presentation technologies, Rons Renamer was left behind. Commercial pressures meant it may not have received the attention it deserved, but I always felt it had more potential.

In our recent evaluation of our product lineup, the decision came down to this: do we archive Rons Renamer, or do we get behind it?

Rons File Wrangler was Born

We decided to get behind it and . . . Rons File Wrangler was born.

Phase one of this new product is essentially a (huge) usability overhaul. Both functionality and presentation features have been inherited or adopted from other products, but the core capabilities have remained the same, albeit in a slicker package.

Improvements include:

• Modern application with smooth scaling, light/dark mode, and color themes.
• Cleaner window layout.
• Automatic updates.
• More rules.
• Undo/redo in the rule editors.

Signing Off

We did not just give it a new name for no reason - we have quite some plans for Rons File Wrangler.
